Progesterone is a vital female hormone as it is responsible for normal functioning of the major body organs. Not only does it promote greater sexual libido – as most people associate it with – progesterone is key to preparing for and maintaining a pregnancy. But in the pre-menopause and menopause periods, you may experience a whole host of complications such as gaining weight, hot flashes, insomnia, irritability, depression, vaginal dryness, and low libido due to the deficiency (or lack) of this hormone.

The onset of menopause sees a reduction in production of estrogen hormone by 40-60% while progesterone levels in the body drop far more drastically, which could bring about hormonal imbalance. This state of hormonal imbalance is known as ‘estrogen dominance’ and leads to symptoms such as weight gain, depression, bloating, moodiness, headaches, breast tenderness, breast cancer, fibrocystic cancers, and reproductive cancers such as ovarian cancer and prostate cancer. It is little wonder then why the symptoms of estrogen dominance are identical to the symptoms suffered by women during menopause.

As a result of the reduction of these hormones, many women opt for hormone replacement therapy. This therapy has several health benefits, and studies have shown that progesterone cream should be included from time to time in the therapy, to prevent a situation whereby you’d end up having an unhealthy high ratio of estrogen to progesterone levels.

To counter estrogen dominance, you would need to use progesterone cream which is exactly similar in chemical composition to human progesterone. Natural progesterone cream is mainly made from the extracts of a wild Mexican yam. Extraction is only done in the lab; the body will not produce progesterone from taking supplements of the yam. Being a natural plant extract, it is safe to use and has no side effects, quite a huge advantage over artificial progesterone creams which bring about migraines, depression, cases of asthma and even breast cancer. You can do away with those undesirable menopause symptoms by just using natural progesterone cream – it could be as simple as that.

There are several natural progesterone cream benefits and they are mainly to do with achieving hormonal balance necessary for overall good health. Remember, the main function of taking in some natural progesterone is balancing estrogen levels in the body, reducing both progesterone deficiency and estrogen dominance. Such benefits include:

Cancer and Heart Disease Prevention
You can reduce the risk of getting Breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and endometrial cancer by using natural progesterone cream. These cancers are likely to be caused by hormonal imbalance caused by excessive estrogen levels. Heart diseases are less likely to occur since a progesterone cream would facilitate burning of body fats, promote healthy blood clotting and eliminate stress and poor sleep, factors which may lead to a stroke or heart attack.

Better Libido
The symptoms of menopause don’t end with hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, putting on some extra weight, and increased chances of suffering a heart attack or a stroke; vaginal dryness is also a big problem that leads to lesser interest in sex, contributing to lower libido. Natural progesterone cream is known to promote a healthier libido.

Improved Bone Health
Progesterone cream fights osteoporosis by stimulating the processes of new bone building or formation and preventing loss of bones. It also triggers production of cortisone, an anti-inflammatory crucial to relief of arthritic pain.

Weight Loss
By stabilizing blood sugar levels, preventing incidents of hypoglycemia, progesterone cream protects you from the urge to eat more. Having low blood sugar makes you eat more and leads to increased insulin production, which removes the sugar in the blood and converts it to fat. Water moves in to fill up the space left, causing you to bloat and suffer cramps. Progesterone is also a fat-burning agent, sure to help you out in your weight-loss efforts.

Reducing Fatigue and Depression
One the most outright symptoms of menopause is low energy levels or fatigue, which is mainly caused having higher estrogen levels that inhibit normal thyroid functioning. Other than being a great anti-depressant, progesterone cream can balance this estrogen to keep you energized and in a better mood.

Compared to the artificial progestins used in hormone replacement therapy, natural progesterone cream is safer and easy to use: you can apply the cream on various parts of the skin, especially the highly absorbent parts like the face, palms of the hands, neck, wrists, breasts, the chest and the soles of your feet.

As a woman, your body has been undergoing many changes. First you were a child with no reproductive capabilities, then you went through puberty as your body went through massive changes that enabled you to conceive a child. Then you may have experienced one or more pregnancies which changed your body in many ways. Now if you are in your late 40′s or 50′s you are, or soon will be experiencing menopause. Menopause has occurred when a woman has experienced her very last period. As you will not know if your current period is your last one, menopause is said to have occurred if you have not menstruated in the last 12 months. But it does not happen overnight, but usually takes years, with most women experiencing various symptoms.

The first phase of menopause is called perimenopause, when you will begin to notice some signs of menopause but will continue to ovulate. This typically begins several years before you reach menopause, when your ovaries start to slow down their estrogen and progesterone production, which will lessen your likelihood of becoming pregnant. At this stage, you may still be three to five years away from complete menopause. During this phase you might experience many symptoms or only a few.

These symptoms ( I don’t really like calling them symptoms because menopause is a totally naturally occurrence, not a disease ) usually include the following:

Hot flashes

Weight gain

Fatigue

Night Sweats

Irregular periods

Increased susceptibility to urinary tract infections

Insomnia

Thinning hair

Irritability

Acne

Lowered fertility

Vaginal burning and itching

Hair growth on face

Urinary incontinence

Vaginal dryness

Concentration and memory problems

Depression and anxiety

Hormonal imbalance

The last phase is post menopause when the ovaries have completely stopped producing eggs and you have not had a period for 12 months.
